A light in the darkness, is what many need, when faced with trouble of many sorts, especially mentally or emotionally. For some, it's in reading the Holy Book, or just plain talking to the Big Guy Himself. For others, it's talking to friends. Some take up a new activity, that isn't associated with the rough times. There are many ways. The trick is to find them.
