*PenB* First Impressions:

That last paragraph was hilarious. The “dark and sordid past” suggested far more than the Christmas tree in the hotel bathroom! That was a very sweet idea, by the way, and they did everything right, except one thing. I can’t imagine what they thought when they ran into the woman who discovered the tree in the bath. But the story veered a little of course at that point. The tale started with your grandmother’s ability to make friends, and the way you described it, just one look was enough to endear people to her. That’s indeed quite a talent, and it seems like she met all sorts of people in lots of different places, and they were all happy to see her again. All of this led to the Christmas tree story and other work related incidents, and I’ve often wondered what people could tell about their jobs if they got the opportunity to talk about it. The two examples you mentioned here were very funny (and educational - I had no idea about spreading kitty litter around a spill but I made a mental note). The last one, I could relate to, especially when you mentioned the news crew that had arrived. I’m not sure if I would have risked my life for a nice hair do, but I wouldn’t have been happy to be on camera half-way through a haircut.

*PenG* Suggestions:

The story was very polished and I only noticed one, tiny error. Hardly worth mentioning, but since I’m here…

One employee just wordless left
I believe that should say, “wordlessly”.

*PenP* Final Thoughts:

The story felt like you were telling it to a good friend, over a coffee maybe, and I could imagine the scenes very well. At first, I wasn’t sure where it might be going since you started with your grandmother and then talked about unrelated events, but you brought it back to the beginning with that final paragraph which I thought was nicely done. And your advice was good - I’m not a very chatty person so I would never do that, but I can see the benefits of asking if you are treated to an entertaining story. A good read!
