Religion - a series of beliefs, practices, rituals, and the like, which involve the power and influence of some sort of higher being. This could be God, or some other god. Or, maybe it's a belief that there are no gods, but folks need to not do certain things, and to just be good people in general. There's lots of ways to think about things.
