I had to stop and read your work again. I think you are not new to poetry. I am an old man, 84. Have been reading and writing poetry most of my life. Your words are very well chosen and tells a story that a reader can enjoy. This one, a story of a mans life to a point paints a picture of good imagery, The rhythm and rhyme are fine in well chosen words in each at the lines end.
