Greetings and welcome to writing.com

This poem is a sobering reminder to take care of one's heart and avoid the trap of "loving" someone who is unable to love you properly in return.

You've utilized strong metaphors, creating an atmosphere of Poe-like gloom and distress as we see someone trying to pull themselves out of an unhealthy relationship.

It's funny, as I read through this the first time I thought it was free verse... I guess I read too fast. Your rhymes are unforced and natural to the flow of thoughts. Perhaps the phrase "wash up" should be "wash off" or "away?"

You bring forth an important consideration: are our ideas of "love" misinformed from the imaginary situations and "happily ever afters" we read about in fiction or see on movie screens? What exactly are we looking for and how do we know when we've found it? I've spent years pondering these questions. Sometimes I ask myself if it's a good thing to create fictional relationship stories at all, because whatever we have in our heads is only a figment, and shouldn't be treated as reality, perhaps misinforming the maturity of others.

Take care, thanks for sharing and keep writing *Smile* *HeartT*
