Victory isn't always winning, sometimes it's simply surviving. There are battles where there is no real winner, only degrees of not beaten. Sometimes you will lose, and know that you will, but if you can accomplish another goal, like helping someone who can't fight to get away, then, in a way, you win if they manage to make it, even if you lose the fight.
