Stubborn Old Boy [13+] You never know what Grandpa is up to. FIRST PLACE, What A Character! |
HAPPY WDC ACCOUNT ANNIVERSARY FROM "Anniversary Reviews" First Impressions: Congratulations on winning the contest! I wrote something for that prompt as well but I wasn’t sure if I actually understood it so I didn’t enter. You didn’t seem to have any problems with it, and you came up with a great tale. The ‘stubborn old boy’ came across like a lovely and adventurous guy who, despite his age and his family’s reservations, hadn’t given up on life or love yet. He devised an ambitious plan to learn about the toads on a little hill near his house, and he had made arrangements to look after the toads and their offspring as well. It was all very well organised, and at the end, he tried to put what he learned to good use. Suggestions: The story was very polished but that wasn’t a surprise; all your stories are. I didn’t notice any errors and I don’t have any suggestions. Final Thoughts: The two characters were very well drawn. The old boy, of course, with his amazing explanation why the grandmother wouldn’t have approved of this, but also the narrator with the cautiously crossed fingers, just in case the information obtained under the seal of a promise had to be passed on. The part where the narrator noticed the ‘mudifications’ of the bathroom made me chuckle because suddenly, the mess the grandfather mentioned earlier made sense. That’s when it all came together and the readers realised just how well this operation had been planned. You used the prompt very well, and I enjoyed the read! ** Image ID #2154080 Unavailable ** My review has been submitted for consideration in "Good Deeds Get CASH!" .
