You have chosen a sensitive topic indeed, but an honest one that should be addressed. It’s very difficult to pick apart your actual theme without becoming overly political, so I’ll let it pass. It’s sincerely written and quite possibly autobiographical - no offense if it isn’t! *Blush* - so I have little to say about it. As a white girl in difficult situations myself, I see where you’re coming from. The prisons are filled with people of all colors, and poor people are ignored, taken advantage of and trampled underfoot by everyone regardless of color.

I’ll offer the usual formatting suggestions: size 4 Verdana font, centered text, and a line count at the bottom if you would like to enter it into contests. Your meter flow well and carries a very subtle rhyme that doesn’t come across as trite at all. As a newbie, you may want to participate in the community at some level, even just announcing when you’ve written something new. You can post your items on a plug page for feedback, or join a poetry group to learn specifics about writing poetry. Which reminds me of what I usually tell poets: I have little authority to critique your form and structure because I hardly know the difference between a sonnet and a villanelle. I see poetry as a highly subjective art form where one can spill one’s heart out any way they please.
