It is a nice little spiritual story but not a boring one at all. We can learn a great lesson here that can be considered the biggest lesson in our lives.
The central character of the story. She is a religious person. So she goes to a specific Church every Sunday. But, on one Sunday, she goes to another Church to honour the request of Kate. It shows another common characteristic of a devotee. They generally are soft-hearted. So they try to keep the request of others if it is not an impossible task.
In this Church, she meets a pastor who can describe every matter in the easiest of languages. She mesmerised. That honourable pastor intimates that Jesus had died on the cross due to the sins of us, the people of the material world.
As he is our eternal father, he takes our pain of sins. If we do more sins, he has to bear more suffering.
That lesson is the subject of the story.
It fulfils all the basic criteria of a short story. The number of characters is minimal in numbers. The main character is Jasmine. The pastor's role is also important. We can not deny that. If Kate is not there as a catalyst, the story can not be constructed. So, only three characters are there.
Though it deals with spiritual subjects, those do not hamper the pace of the story. That gives an awesome readability, too.
Overall, a brilliant beginning. Go ahead.
