Hello, I’m reviewing this strange story because I came across it on Read and Review. My first thought was The Handmaiden’s Tale. A new society where women were reduced to nothing but breeding machines, or sexual slaves. Your story is similar but in reverse. I was a bit confused when the boy is complaining about the discomfort of being a girl and mentioned large breasts. How did that come about? Are males forced to take female hormones and the females testosterone ? What about reproduction?
I have a couple of suggestions which could clear up the confusion for the reader. The new rules could still be enforced without the need to change everything so radically. The roles could still be reversed, men forced to only work in female roles and visa versa. You could perhaps explain the punishments if these rules were broken. How far in the future do you envisage this state of affairs happening? How did all come about?
Your idea for this story is very interesting, you could expand on the concept. To reach the point of males actually acceding to the handing over of their power surely must have come with terrible conflict, a war perhaps? You’ve certainly opened up a can of worms here.
