It is a perfect traditional Japanese Senryu. This poetry follows all the characteristics that an ideal traditional Japanese Senryu should have.
The poetry portrays the image of the mind beautifully. He is thinking of her savouring memories closing his eyes. So, his wife yelled to stop the car.
Now the question arises, is the car used symbolically? I hope so. The car indicates his lover, the past. His wife is his present. When conflict between the past and present is taking place, and is too hard to maintain the balance. That is projected here in the poetry.
It is an exceptionally stunning beginning. Go ahead.
