![]() ![]() ![]() Good morning, yn8275th, and welcome to WdC. For the record, my real name is Jack Tyler, and I am a retired steampunk and horror writer who tries to review in a wide variety of styles and genres. While I have a few books in print, I am neither a famous author nor a renowned critic. I'm just a guy with an opinion that I'm here to share. Before I pitch in, allow me to offer a suggestion: Put a little of yourself into your bio sections. You will receive much more tailored reviews if your reviewer knows a little about your background and experience level. This is less a review than a comment, though I will say that your essay is well laid out and virtually error-free. I did note a spot where you used a semicolon where a comma should be, but really, how much nitpicking is appropriate in a piece like this? For your own information, it's here: ...so I posted it; not thinking that anybody would actually read it... That's the fiction reviewer in me coming out, but I'd really like to give you some perspective and encouragement. You exhibit a wonderfully mature attitude toward a painful experience. Many people join a new site and get hammered first thing, and they head right for the "unjoin" button. To take it in stride and look for something of value in it is an outlook that will enable you to get tremendous value from the site you have been fortunate enough to find. First and foremost, WdC is very active as you've already discovered. I have a few books in print, my readers have given me a nickname, and still, consider these facts: I typically get about 50 views a day on writing-dot-com, sometimes as many as a hundred. I figure that puts me right about at the midpoint compared to some of our more active members, but my off-site reading and writing sites typically take a month or more to garner fifty views. If you want readers, critiques, activities, this is definitely where you'll find them! I don't often do this, but I'm going to plug a couple of my pages. My original blog, "Invalid Item" ![]() ![]() Whatever you decide about that, welcome to the wonderful world of writing-dot-com, and I sincerely hope you have a long and profitable relationship with us! Read well, and write better, ![]() ![]() ![]()
