Hi there, Genipher! This a nice piece, and being the dog lover that I am, I thought you did an excellent job of telling about one of your first(?) pets. I think it's neat that your folks surprised you on Christmas morning by 'not' getting you the dog you wanted, but instead left it in the hall after you opened all your other presents. Reminds me of that scene in Christmas Story where his folks didn't give him his Red Ryder BB gun until all the other present were opened! Jack obviously meant a lot to you, and I wish you would had the chance to say goodbye, and like you said, I'm sure he knew you loved him. And all dogs DO go to heaven! Even Cujo! I've had more dogs in my life than I can count, mostly Great Danes (my father once said he would never own a dog he had to bend down to pet ), and I loved every one of them, even the ones that weren't Great Danes. Dogs are very special animals, and they do indeed sense things we can't. One tiny niggle in an otherwise excellent piece: ('sooth' should be ‘soothe’-‘sooth’ is an adjective meaning real or true) Kee ponw ritin gon, Genipher, and always smile at the times we shared with our pets!
