Season's greetings, JonBBell! I like this, even with its sad undertones. I currently live in a large city, but I was raised in a small town where everybody knew everybody else, whether they wanted to or not. And if somebody (anybody) died, you could be sure that there would be a line of folks at the widow's front door with that casserole you mentioned. Small towns are indeed like families, and you did a great job pointing that out with this. I don't know if this is a true story of yours or not, but I'm sure it's happened to some people. And just like you, I'm sure they had same inner conversation going on in their heads as you (or your character) did. Do we really know our neighbors? Do we want to know our neighbors? Very well written, my friend!
'mud pot gray skies of early winter gurgled overhead' (excellent description!) Kee ponw ritin gon, Jon! I just noticed that you were one of the 1st people I reviewed on here back in September of 2011, so it's nice to come back around and find this. I hope to see you back here soon! We miss ya!
