I like this. I read another of these 'Dear Friends' pieces but I wasn't sure if those were prompt phrases or not. You did really good job using them in this!
Not sure why, but everybody seems to be reflecting on getting older with this coming holiday. Is it just me, or has this always been happening? The reason I mention that is because you're talking about your grandkids putting you in retirement home (I know this is strictly fiction-I'm just reviewing what Gertrude was saying!).
It really does sound like a family Christmas letter. Unfortunately, I don't care for them too much. Seems every year I get one it's from Uncle Billy telling everybody how great his kids are doing, what a wonderful life he has, and just how peachy keen the world is.
Hate to tell you this, Uncle Billy, but I really don't want to hear it! Nobody has a life that sweet, perfect and sugar-covered!
Anyway, good job, Genipher!
