I read this more than three times now, and I keep wanting to go over it again. This is such a rewarding poem to read. It gets the reader to reflect and to think about various aspects of life... and death. I really like the structure you employed. At the beginning, these lines made me pause: "So meaning is for me to fashion, And form a matrix deep and wide." What's really beautiful about this is that it is empowering. People do create their own meaning, not only are they the ones in charge of interpreting what happens in their lives, but they are also the ones in charge of creating meaning in their lives and imbuing their existence with a purpose. And the way you juxtaposed what happens on the inside, with the demands of life and the pressures to adjust one's "aim" was quite interesting. Those were the lines that stopped me next: "So each of us must find a way To conquer fear before we go." Also quite empowering. And it made me consider the pain that people sometimes suffer when they spend their entire life either scared or avoiding situations that inspire fear. I completely agree with you, we must find a way to conquer fear, otherwise our lives get wasted in a futile attempt to escape the inevitable. As for the inevitable, I really love the way you addressed it: "What is a man who will avoid Reality that all should know." Such powerful lines, and such a brave and realistic poem. Yes, the only scary thing is fear itself, and running scared of reality achieves nothing. I loved the message behind this piece, I loved the structure of this piece and I really enjoyed the easy flow and the word choices you made. There is absolutely nothing to critique here.
