Description of an affected Lindsay is pretty visual and effective. The ghost that haunted the house seems to have taken fancy to Lindsay. Relationship between a human and a ghost appears rather weird.
It is difficult to judge if a particular house for sale is haunted or not. However, I heard that it is better to avoid roaming in an old building presumably to let the departed souls, if there are any, alone. We do not know. There is no scientific data about ghosts. It is one of the reasons why we are free to let imagination fly while penning a ghost story.

The end-
Before she left with Angel, Lindsay saw the doll's eyes gleaming. Did she take it with her? Could it be the reason for the statement, " She drove them both away, and so drove away with the evil she was trying to escape."?
