Hi celticsea! I am celebrating WDC 14th Bday Party and you with a review!
I couldn't resist checking out the Cramp entries for the prompt-a western with 14 pelicans-and there youwere. I always loved your work so here I am.
O my gosh, this is too funny and so delightful to read. I could just imagine the showdown on the street with pelicans in a V facing..fish!! LOL The idea is ingenious and fits the natural order of things. Bringing in the commentary of endangerment is brilliant too.
The contrast of the organized pelicans and the "leaderless "school of fish added to the drama and idea of an "underdog". Good show.
The western setting was visible and the characters played out their immitation of a showdown. I like the Osprey sherriff, the lead pelican who moved to the back, and the surprise ending giving the herrings a chance. It showed well the superior attitude of the leader .The idea of a posse is what I saw coming. LOL
The structure of the poem was solid and made for a pleasureable read aloud and the vivid images and action kept my attention and interest. The rhyme scheme was balanced and added to the flow and bits of humour were brilliant. Corralling herring s in a dish formation is so cool!! Hey, maybe the word "corralled "might suit the theme better than "channelled" in a more potent way.
I noticed : "no no boss known" should there only be one no--or was this a purposeful repetition?
Thanks for creating this entertaining and creative tale! I couldn't even think how to begin with the prompt! I enjoyed your rendering. I had fun and it made my morning!! I think I will have a tuna melt for lunch!
