It's quit good this short piece. It shows without telling a break up. We see the pained expressions and the close observations. What this fellow remembers is essentially Patricia's mouth. How it showed displeasure, showed her ironic stance. It became the symbol by which he remembered her.

The mental images are strong. Not only her mouth, her knife-like smile, both of their hand gestures, the anguish, etc. We see it all and this tells not only the story of their current state, but their recent past.

The tale shows that disconnection that happens after a break-up. There is that complex relationship between the two who knew that relationship was over, and that what they felt for each other no longer mattered. This was their last meeting and the reader can feel that tension, and spite, especially on Patricia's part, who of course is the wounded party.

“I’m sad,” she says, her hand on her hip. I clap my hands lightly. “I’m sorry, it was unavoidable.”

There is that coldness from the man's side. We aren't sure why he is so unfeeling. We assume he has his reasons. We know there is anger at her always knowing, and that may or may not be true. It's as likely a cover.

The ending is excellent, I think. You can feel the cool bitterness ooze fro Patricia:

I give her my hand to shake, she pulls away “, I don’t want to touch you,” she says.
“See you later,” I say, I don’t think. “No you won’t,” she says “, I’ll never write you or call you.” Matter-of-fact, angry. I pull the door towards me until it clicks.

She knows he is soon out the door, out of his life and it is her only chance to show her anger, her pain, and she reacts immaturely, for it's her last opportunity to make him feel her indignation. It's a rash move, but one most of us make.

Yeah, this is very good.
