Chapter #6

The Hiding Spot

    by: SWP Author IconMail Icon
He assesses the situation and runs over to the bed. He climbs and hides in between the mattress and the box spring. There is just enough space for him to squirm in. About the second he gets himself hidden, he hears and feels an earthquake as the four girls walk into the room.

"Where is Phil? I want to play with him," one of the girls squeals in excitement.

"He's right..." Kendra begins to answer. "Okay, so he was right here on the floor."

"Did you leave unintended Kendra?! You could have put easily put him somewhere for like the 10 seconds it took to get us at the door."

"I just got excited and wasn't thinking straight," Kendra rebuts. "Oh my gosh, we need to find him."

They search the room, checking under the bed, within the sheets, in the dresser, in the dirty laundry pile, and everywhere else they could think of. They don't think to look in between the mattresses though, presuming Phil couldn't fit there.

"I don't think he's in the room. Do you think he left your room."

"Let's check. He couldn't be far if he did that. He's small, and we only gave him a few seconds."

They leave the room to search the hallway and surrounding rooms. Phil takes this as a moment to come out of his hiding spot and assess the situation. He needs to find a way out quickly without getting caught. The door to the room is not an option since the girls are right out there looking for him. He'd almost surely get found. He sees a bedroom window, but the room is on the second floor, a dangerous climb for him. He notices that Kendra has a laundry shoot. That's perfect, he thinks. It'll take him to the basement where they aren't expecting him, and he can climb up the stairs and sneak out the front door to his freedom.

He goes over and climbs onto the laundry shoot. A very high climb, but given his small body weight and almost constant practice out of necessity in living in a society built for people much taller than him, he's always been a good climber. He looks in the shoot, an black bottomless abyss, closes his eyes, and jumps. He lands in a pile of dirty laundry.

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*
1. Kendra already thought of this and is waiting for him there.

*Noteb*
2. No one is down there.

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
