"Now, Philip?" continued Mrs. Prittey: "This will be your homeroom, every morning. And, I'll keep you on my desk, until first bell. Such being the case, I had the school maintenance men build a scaled-down version of the girls' desks, just for you".

"When first bell rings, and you have to go to the first class on your schedule, one of the girls will carry you, desk and all. Which of you girls wants to volunteer for that duty?"

Needless to say, all the girls raised their hands. Mrs. Prittey smiled at the response, and chose...
