She would never hear me from down here, I thought. The only chance to get her attention was to hit her toe as hard as I could. I ran full pelt, and began to realise that it didn't seem to be getting closer as fast as I thought. I was forced to push my way through carpet fibres as tall as me, and the mountainess foot was larger and further away than it seemed. Luckily she was standing still, and after a herculian effort I reach her in about a minute.
Not bad for a little dude.
I climbed up onto the carpet fibres to get higher up and gasped in awe. I was under the front of her little toe. It actually curved overhead like a canopy. I wasn't going to be able to kick it from here so I started to punch the tough pink skin with all my might. I could see the whorls on the surface and I hardly caused a dent.
But then she began to move. And I began to be very afraid. What had I been thinking?
The whole foot lifted into the air, and the slipstream of air sucked me up and dropped me painfully into the fibres. I lay winded on my back as her shadowed sole filled the whole sky sailing overhead on and on and on. And closer.
She was going to tread on me!
