As Dan is going out the door, he pauses and asks, “Would you like to come with me? I’m just bringing Daphne back here, but I could show you a bit of the town on the way. And you might meet some of her friends.”
“You’re sure it’s ok?” you asks. “I mean, your girl might want to go somewhere with you.”
“Nah, she’ll just want to come and soak up the sun,” Dan replied. “She works in a summer camp program with little kids, she wants peace and quiet when she gets off.”
“Well, thanks then.” you say, and walk out with Dan. “Dad, I’ll be back in a while, Dan’s going to give me the nickel tour of the town.”
“OK, see you.”
You and Dan walk over to his place, where Dan ducks inside and comes back with a set of keys to the blue Ford Taurus parked out front. “It’s my mum’s car, I’m saving for my own,” Dan says. “But she’s great about letting me use it.” Dan drives pretty carefully, pointing out the schools, park, football field, the industrial park, and two malls, before turning through the downtown (a very nice downtown, you notice, with lots of shops) to get to the central park where Daphne works. He parks and you both get out and go over to the recreation centre in the park. Daphne, looking tired, is just coming out the doors with two other girls. “Daphne, this is Pete, he’s just moving in next door,” Dan says. “Pete, this is Daphne, Georgie, and Ellen.”
“Hi, Pete,” Georgie and Ellen say together. Pete’s eye is immediately attracted to Georgie. Not too tall, not too short, and very curvy, almost heavy, with a sweet smile. Ellen is taller and thinner - not really your type - but Georgie...
“Daphne invited us all back to her place to swim,” Georgie says, looking straight at you. “Want to come?”
“Sure,” you reply without thinking. Oops, now you have to appear in swim trunks in front of her! Smooth move, Pete, you’ve only just met her, you think. Darn.
The five of you get into the Taurus, and Daphne and Ellen tell amusing stories about the antics of their campers that day. You sit quietly worrying about stuffing your fat self into your swim trunks. As you get out, Georgie comes up beside you.
“Feeling ok?” she asks quietly.
“Yeah,” you reply. “I just don’t know if I should go swimming while Dad is still unloading boxes. And I have to go home for swim trunks.”
“I’ll come with you,” says Georgie. “I have my bikini with me, so I’m ready.”
You hesitates - you really want to go home to avoid appearing in swim trunks in front of this beautiful girl. What do you say to Georgie?
