Chapter #7

Death Ray

    by: Small1 Author IconMail Icon
"Kewl!" Tommy exclaimed as he looked down and saw dozens of tiny insects scurrying on Mr. Smith's kitchen table. "Ants!"

Bryan, still in the shadow of the box, gazed up at Tommy's titanic form, more than a little awed at the huge teenager. He didn't stop to wonder why Tommy sounded so excited about the discovery of a few ants.

"Well, let's take care of this!" Tommy said, lowering his hand.

In one swift swoop, Tommy scooped the box off the kitchen table, leaving Bryan in shock. "No!" The tiny man screamed. "Tommy! Wait!"

Tommy shoved the little box into a pocket.

As Bryan watched, the huge teenager fished in another pocket until his hand withdrew a round glass disc attached to a long silver handle.

A beam of sunlight shone through Bryan's kitchen window at Tommy's back, perfect for focusing high intensity beams through the mammoth magnifying glass.

Holding the magnifying glass over the tabletop, Tommy narrowed the beam of light and moved the super-charged shaft of energy toward the nearest ant.

The tiny creature writhed and tried to escape, but Tommy followed its every move with relentless efficiency until the insect sizzled and popped.

Tommy had enjoyed this particular game since he had been a kid. He moved his laser toward another ant.

Tiny Bryan had to shield his eyes from the intense beam of light. He watched horrified as the beam fell onto another ant. He heard the crackling as the ant burned to a quick crisp under the highly focused beam of sunlight.

After Tommy felled a third ant, Bryan realized the teenager meant to obliterate every ant in sight. Unfortunately, Bryan realized, he wouldn't look all that different from the tiny ants.

"Tommy!" Bryan shouted. "Stop!"

Bryan looked around for any possibly hiding place, but found himself completely exposed.

Then, glancing upward, he saw the beam of light moving across the tabletop toward him. Far above, holding the magnifying glass in a steady hand, Tommy smiled at his trek of carnage.

You have the following choices:

1. Tommy continues zapping ants

2. Tommy notices a strange ant
