Bryan yelped, narrowly avoiding a bee as it buzzed near him.
He rested his hand over his heart, as if to steady the beat. Flying or crawling, insects terrified him. His whole body suddenly shuddered, and dizziness swept over him again. He was rubbing his head, leaning against his car when a voice called out.
"Good morning!" A deep, youthful voice greeted. Bryan looked up to see a teenaged supermarket employee pass by. He wore the usual uniform garb; tan shorts, black button-up work shirt, and black sneakers. The older scientist just stared, slightly smiling as he watched.
Bryan's failure to reply went unnoticed to the young employee, who strode up to collect abandoned carts. Despite his ill feeling, Bryan couldn't help but leer, something he often did when grocery shopping since the store employed many of the town's high school and college age guys. He had previously hoped Tommy would get a part time job here, effectively completing his menagerie of youthful eye candy.
His peering was suddenly interrupted when a sharp sensation took hold of him. Bryan sank to the ground, hidden from sight by his car, and felt breathless as the realization hit him.
"This... Shrinking... I'm shrinking!" His moan barely escaping his lips. "Dear God... No... This can't be-..."
Suddenly, as if a light switch had been flicked off then on, Bryan landed with a thump on the warm asphalt. The sensation left almost instantly, returning his body back to normal. Yet, as the scientist rose, all was not normal.
"Shit... I've shrunken!" Bryan cried.
His whole body went numb. Goose pimples coated his body at the thought of his predicament. His formula had obviously had a delayed effect--a very delayed effect! Bryan whimpered, taking in his terrific surroundings. Surprisingly flat, yet covered in ragged boulder larger than him, stretched seemingly endless miles of asphalt. It looked as if he has been transported centuries into a future decimated by lava and boiling heat. It was a complete wasteland.
"Holy hell!" Yelled the diminutive scientist as he took in the enormous shape looming above, before, and around him. "My... My... My car! It is fucking massive!"
The sight was impossibly huge, taking up nearly all of the sky. He rubbed his eyes again and again trying to comprehend the sheer size of his once compact-sized sedan.
Bryan began to panic. His formula had been purposely developed to shrink a human being to a size smaller than a grain of rice. This in itself was a fantastic and marvelous discovery, yet only when used in a controlled environment. This was anything but a "controlled" environment. "I need to find help!"
He looked around, hearing a roaring buzz that sounded like a 747 taking flight. A ship-sized bumble bee roared overhead, soaring higher and higher till it vanished from sight. Shortly after, the ground began to shudder. The vibrations became catastrophically violent, sending tiny Bryan to his knees. Boulders of asphalt, each larger than himself shifted and rocked as a thunderous sound filled the air.
"Fuck!" An enormous vehicle, far larger than his own exploded by, moving at a dizzying pace despite its impossible size. "Fuck, fuck, fuck!"
He huddled in terror until the ground seemed to settle. Only minor vibrations disturbing it, telling of many more monstrous vehicles far away.
"I have to get out of here! Oh god, somebody help!" He turned, looking for a destination and trying to formulate a plan.
