Chapter #9

Only Temporary Shelter

    by: Small1 Author IconMail Icon

The shrunken scientist, reduced to a mere quarter-of-an-inch in stature, lodged himself as securely as possible between two neighboring toes belonging to his titanic neighbor.

Looking at his situation, the tiny man reflected on the ludicrous circumstances that had forced him to take shelter in the wide crevice between his teenaged neighbor's toes. The situation in his home, with the arrival of the enormous exterminator, left him little choice. Staying behind and facing extermination didn't appeal to the bug-sized man.

Unfortunately, he hadn't thought out every step in his impulsive action. He needed to get Tommy's attention, but even more urgently he needed to maintain his position between the teenager's enormous toes, which surprised him with the intensity of their rank odor. The speck of a man felt his little form being permeated by the nauseating stench of Tommy's foot sweat.

He overheard the enormous exterminator sharing some dispiriting information with Tommy about the effects of the spray. "It doesn't leave any bugs standing," boasted the handsome exterminator.

"First I even knew about Mr. Smith having a bug problem," Tommy said.

The titanic teen started moving, his sandals flapping loudly on the kitchen tiles, totally oblivious to the strain a simple step put on the tiny man trying to hold out between his toes.

He stopped abruptly at the back door as he reached for the knob. The sheer force of the sudden stop caught his tiny passenger unprepared. Momentum took control and launched the speck-sized man from between Tommy's toes and into empty space.

Or at least empty space until the tiny projective collided with the baseboard running along the bottom of the kitchen wall.

The bottom of the door passed over the limp form of the tiny man as Tommy exited Mr. Smith's kitchen, leaving Diego to his work.

Diego, just as unmindful as Tommy of the bug-sized specimen now seemingly lifeless on the tiles, fastened his facemask into place and picked up the canister of insecticide, having decided to...

You have the following choices:

1. Start spraying in the kitchen

2. Start spraying elsewhere in the house
