Chapter #8

Nothing worse than a goth scorned

Time passed quickly with the three girls laying around in their living room, waiting for company to arrive. Tanya called a bit early and ordered up a few pizzas for her and Alexis to go pick up.

Finally, when they were just leaving, Jeff and a bunch of his nerdy friends showed up. Shannon wasn't too impressed to see the rest of them, but she eagerly hugged Jeff a hello.

"Hey shorty, where are we setting up?" Jeff asked as he took off his backpack full of gaming rule books.

Shannon glared at his comment but she casually said, "The table in the kitchen is pretty big, probably the best place. How many people did you bring?"

"Seven, well eight including me. I kinda figured you had the room and all. Comon guys, oh and girl," Jeff said as he walked on toward the back of the town house. Shannon peered back curious to see that one of the guys had brought their wife along too. Everyone, including Shannon was only around their early twenties, but some of her friends did marry early.

Everyone set up and Shannon stood off in the wood trimmed doorway leading back through the dining room and into the living room. Most of Jeff's friends were heavy set guys, which made her feel a little better about herself. But Jeff himself was rather scrawny.

"Alright, who was I with last adventure?" Began Jeff who was leading the game it seemed.

"Rob and I had just gotten out of the castle with that thing the mage guy from town wanted us to steal when he caught us stealing from his shop," One guy explained. One of the heavy set ones, with thin blonde hair and stubble.

The girl, also a heavy set member of the group joined in, "Wasn't I finally back with the caravan? Shouldn't we wrap that up first?"

"So," the voice broke all the comments, "when do I get to roll up a character?" Shannon asked quietly.

"Shan you can't play! We're in the middle of a campaign!" Jeff laughed, "There's too much going on right now for me to just work you in."

"Well, I figured you'd make room for your girlfriend," Shannon pushed him a little with a smile, standing over his chair.

Jeff dropped his bag of dice on the table, "Is that what this is about? You thought we were dating? I've had enough of fat girls! Kelly was a hyperactive pain. Last thing I need is you getting depressed on me all the time!"

All of his friends sat there, kind of in shock at Jeffs words. Worst of all was Shannon, who's eyeliner had already began to run in ragged dark gray tears. Bursting out of the room crying, she threw herself down on the living room couch.

Back in the kitchen, Jeff's friends were telling him off quietly, encouraging him to go make up with the poor girl. Though he would have nothing to do with it of course.

Through tear filled eyes, Shannon's shivering body allowed her to look up to see the remote on the couch. If only that thing really worked.
