Trevor stared at the man as he turned around and shouted Eliza's name. His face was red with rage and his eyes gleamed threateningly. Whatever was happening, Eliza was in danger and he needed to keep her safe.
"Hey," he said bravely, puffing out his chest just slightly. This man was big, bigger than him, but he needed to show courage. "What the hell do you want with my girlfriend?"
Roy rounded on him, his eyes wide with anger. Trevor took an involuntary step back. "YOUR girlfriend!" he bellowed, his voice ringing through the cabin. Inside the closet Eliza shrunk farther back in fear, but the men didn't know that. "YOUR GIRLFRIEND!"
All courage drained out of Trevor's body as the man's voice escalated and his hands curled to fists. He was terrified. "THAT GIRLFRIEND HAPPENS TO BE MY WIFE!"
Roy advanced on him and Trevor backed away in fright. The man's right fist was up and ready, and he was swinging it back just as Christine shouted, "STOP!"
But of course he didn't. His fist made impact with Trevor's nose and the force of it flung him into the kitchen cabinets, where his back hit the edge of a counter. Pain seared through his spine and his nose, and blood dripped onto the floor, but he forced himself to move out of the way of the next fist. Roy slammed into the cabinet and yelled in fury.
Eliza heard all this from the bedroom, and it terrified her. She knew that leaving her hiding place could be dangerous, but she had to stop Roy from hurting Trevor. She crawled out of closet and stood up, took a deep breath, and rushed to the kitchen.
Trevor dodged another blow and Roy yelled in frustration. "Come here you -- "
"Roy!"
Roy turned slowly, his hand still raised at Trevor, who was shielding himself with his arms. Eliza stood in the doorway, hands gripped into fists by her sides and her eyes narrowed in determination and fear.
Roy smiled. "Ah, Eliza. You've made it just in time to watch your boyfriend die."
