Anne wonders at Tarynn's behavior but extends her hand. "I'm Anne."
Tarynn looks at the hand but doesn't take it.
"Do you need a ride?"
"Huh?"
"It's nasty out here. If you need a ride, get in. I think I've fixed it." Anne turned from Tarynn, thinking she may have made a mistake by offering a ride to someone such as he, but there was something familiar about him. It may have been because she had a cousin who had that kind of posture, that kind of hair cut, that kind of dark expressionless eyes.
As Anne got into the car, Tarynn stood in the sleeting rain as if he'd not heard her offer.
Anne cranked the little hatchback and turned on the headlights. They shimmered off Tarynn's wet clothes and into his eyes. Later Anne realized she shouldn't have turned on the lights just then, but it was too late. Once the lights hit his clothes, he disappeared. He didn't just run off into the woods - no. He simply disappeared - as if into thin air.
Anne blinked several times, letting the small car idle in the noisy rain, her mind attempting to process what she believed she'd just seen. She shook her head wondering if she'd seen anyone at all. Maybe he'd been a figment of her stressed imagination, or maybe... she locked her door and quickly looked all about the car, her eyes straining to see something in the darkness.
