Suddenly Bill was hoisted up from the gravel and was starring in the face of one of Budd's friends. His eyes came level to Ben's only due to the fact that Ben was lifting him from under his armpits, which made his hanging feet seemed to confirm to Bill how small he had become. Ben looked at the red eyed, sniveling, boy in front of him and felt sorry for him. Ben was 14, but was Budd's best friend, he also tended to be the more mature of the two and quite often had to fix Budd's mistakes. Bill didn't struggle against this monster force holding him captive, just hung limp in the behemoths grip. Ben turned him over examining the situation and saw the Road Rash on the boy's back side. He had his suspicions about how Budd's now younger brother became hurt but needed to make sure first.
He looked Bill in the eye and said in a soothing voice, "How'd you get the scratches on your back side?". Bill looked to his brother and shuddered and clung to Ben's chest in fear of answering. Unfortunately this answered the question for Ben and he looked at Budd judgmentally. "Budd you crossed a line, he may have been your brother but that doesn't give you the right to hurt him. He is younger than you now and you should take care of him. He is so scared of you he'd rather stay with me."
