At first, a few members of the audience started to cry out the name of the boy they wanted to see have a spell cast upon and disappear. Soon, more and more people began shouting out and chanting one of the two names, however as the momentum for cheering names grew, one name emerged as the victor of the short-lived battle of cheers.
"Kouji! Kouji! Kouji!" the audience chanted, some throwing their fists into the air in beat with the chant. The dark haired boy raised his eyebrows, scowled, and rolled his eyes almost apathetically with his mouth slightly agape when he heard the audience's response.
"Well, you've heard it, then, folks," JP smiled nervously, mindful that he hadn't been studying up on his stageshow magic tricks, the disappearing act being the worst of them, "Kouji Minamoto is our lucky guy who will be the first volunteer of this show!" The audience cheered in response. The boy in blue mumbled something to himself before sighing, putting his hands in his pockets, and closing his eyes.
"... Do I really have to go through with this?" he asked through closed teeth.
"Well, yeah, there's nothing dangerous involved about it if that's what you're worrying about," JP assured his reluctant volunteer, amidst the audience's loud and overly enthusiastic cheers.
Kouji just turned his head down, smirked darkly, and sighed again, "Whatever you say, JP... but why they'd want to see me disappear over that numbskull Takuya..." before he chuckled, "I can see you're quite the success with the audience, JP."
JP smirked in return before turning to face his audience, "Let's just hope I can keep it up."
Beads of sweat ran down the young magician's forehead, "Uhm... ladies and gentlemen, for my first trick of the evening, I will make this boy, Kouji Minamoto disappear!"
Again, the audience broke out into mild applause as he said this. Two spotlights poured down from the iron framework above the stage onto Kouji and JP as all other lights began to fade out; Takuya frowned when he sensed that he was starting to get left in the dark on stage and started to grin cheesily while tiptoing and edging off slowly, closer and closer to Kouji's own circle of light so he could be better seen.
JP was now breaking out into a fine stream of sweat dripping from his face, "That's right, so, uh, let's begin!" he continued, trying not to stall any longer, and struggling to remember what little he could from the illusion. Was it the procedure where he sent a signal out to the stage hands above by waving his wand to send smoke and lights over where Kouji was so they could swiftly drop a small, dark curtain over Kouji's body. The curtain could blend in with the background, making it appear that he had disappeared... but he began to shiver as he considered all the possibility for failure he had during those few steps, as he had barely practiced this disappearing act alone, even with an unknowing volunteer. Hopefully, Kouji wouldn't try to walk past the curtain... but even still...
The fear of failure started to consume JP's thoughts as he rigidly stood on stage, facing JP. Reluctantly, he grabbed his black magic wand from the dark box on the collapsible table, located conviently next to him. He could feel that not only his face was, at this point, cold and dripping with sweat as he clutched the wand stiffly in his right hand... he was going to mess up completely on this and the whole show would fall apart... his reputation as a famous actor would be ruined, and all because of some failed magic trick... why did he ever get himself involved in this?
"Oh great," JP muttered to himself as he noticed that his shoelaces on one shoe were completely untied. He couldn't just bend over and retie them in front of an entire stadium full of people watching him. JP would have to make due.
It seemed like he was frozen with fright and had difficulty moving... as if he couldn't continue the show because JP knew all eyes were on him... scrutinizing and watching for any little slip-up he might make...
"Uhm..." Kouji said, raising an eyebrow while he stood cooly with his hands hidden away into his pockets, "Are you going to say any magic words or wave your wand, or what?"
JP suddenly stood upright, "Magic words..." he gasped, taking a spare hankerchief out and wiping the sweat off his forehead, "Ah, I suppose... I mean..."
He was stalling again! JP was sure he heard a few murmurs again throughout the crowd, and especially after he had gotten them all fired up...
If only he could somehow leave this tricky scenario... all eyes were on him... he wanted to sit down, placing a hand against his face, breath deeply and relax, relieving him of this predicament...
"You know, magic words?" Takuya piped in, sticking his head into Kouji's spotlight, making only his head visible to the audience, "Like 'Hocus Pocus!' " he yelled, jumping into the middle of Kouji's ring of light on the stage, throwing his arms out with much gusto, and nearly bumping into Kouji. "Or 'Alakazam!' he continued, waving his fingers in the air.
The two boys now shared the same spotlight, "Yeah, sure, Takuya, whatever you say..." Kouji snickered.
"Well, isn't somebody having a 'cooler-than-thou' attitude tonight, Kouji," Takuya cried, "Maybe it's a good thing you'll be disappearing tonight, if not just for a little while."
Takuya glanced upwards and placed a finger on his chin after a while with thought, "But you do have a good point. Those magic words are all generic ones, you know, stuff you hear in jokes and cartoons. Maybe JP has a real disappearing spell that he can work on you!" This got a few cheers from the audience, but most of them were paying attention to the two boys more than the troubled JP, who shifted from side to side, not sure what to do, "Well, what's the word, then?" Takuya asked.
"Uhm!" JP snapped to attention, trying to win the audience, walking toward the boys.
Suddenly, JP fell flat on his face with a crash!
His head spinning and seeing stars, JP slowly rose from the sleek, polished floor, bending a knee. Everyone was laughing at him, even Takuya, and some cheered. In fact, the only person who JP was sure wasn't laughing at him was Kouji, and even he was grinning! "Uhm, oops?" JP laughed nervously, pretending to smile and act like nothing had gone wrong at all. He felt horrible and extremely embarassed as his face began to turn a vivid shade of red. He got the audience's attention after all, didn't he? ... Truly, he wanted out. It was a mess-up; if only he could just rewind and start from the beginning again, if only he could redo the act!
Suddenly a burst of smoke and flares exploded out of JP's wooden wand with a loud bang that cracked through the laughter, silencing everyone! The bunch of strangely forming smoke and sparkles shot out toward a wide-eyed Kouji and Takuya and soon engulfed them to the audience's awe; some gasped and others just watched intently to see what would happen...
Within a matter of moments that stood on end and seemed to last hours, the strange clouds cleared and dissolved slowly into the air, revealing...
