"What did you say, sweetheart?", your mother says from the kitchen in her usual happy mood.
"You won't believe it, Mom! There was this gleaming cube in a hole in the yard, I bet it came from space, and when I picked it up I grew a whole foot!"
"Oh, my. Now that was a rough way to deliver it", she says, picking it.
"Eh, are you familiar with it?", you ask, puzzled.
"Mmmh. I was about to tell you tomorrow, in your birthday, but whatever. Terry", she says in an unsuccessfully solemn tone, "you are the daughter of an alien!"
"....................? You?"
"Yep, that would be me!", she replies laughing. This would be quite a shock for any gullible daughter, but being such an airhead you immediately come to terms with this.
"Really? That's so cool~!", you say, grabbing her hands.
"And you know what's our forte? Size-changing! We can grow or shrink as much as we wish", she explains cheerfully. "But since you are too the daughter of a human you will need this device to develop your powers. Though, considering your body reacted immediately to it this should be a piece of cake! As soon as we have breakfast we'll try it out, okay? Could you please go wake up Adrian and Abby?"
