You pick up the device with a viewscreen. It is small enough to fit in your pocket.
As you examine it, something you do makes the tiny screen light up. There is a girl's face on it. She seems to be looking at you. Then she turns as though she has heard something off to her left. She jumps back from the screen and runs off in the other direction. You only see her whole body for a fraction of a second, but that is long enough to see that she is naked.
You study the screen, but it only shows an empty room now. It's hard to make out the things in her room. They are in the distance and out of focus, but you think that it might be a bed and a table and some pictures on a wall. Then the screen goes blank. You can't figure out how to make it light up again.
You can't get the image of the girl out of your head. She looked like she might be in trouble - like she might be trying to get away from something or somebody.
You turn the viewing device this way and that trying to discover how to make it work again. It starts to make a beeping noise, so you must have turned on something. The beeps begin slowly: beep.......beep.......beep.......beep....... but speed up rapidly to beep, beep, beep, beep, and just when you think you should throw the device down, there is a very loud "crack!" and you are no longer in the room but are standing outdoors. You can hear the echo of the "crack!" repeating over and over as it fades out.
