It all started as a pretty uneventful evening. You ate a couple slices of pizza, then drove to your job at Stop & Go, a small convenience store/gas station on the outskirts of town. You locked your car doors, relieved the person behind the counter, and settled in for a long, uneventful shift.
Right after sunset, a man in a sweatshirt had filled his jeep up with gas and come inside to pay for it.
"$25 of gas?" you ask him.
"Yeah..." he'd replied, "and while you're at it, give me all of the money in the cash register." What in the world? you thought. Is this guy trying to rob me?
The man pulls a pistol out of his pocket and levels it at your head. "Move it!"
You fill up a bag with cash from the cash register, surreptitiously setting off the silent alarm in the process. The police will be here in a few minutes... you think. If I can just stall this guy until they get here....
"Uh... I don't have very much money here in the register, but there's a safe in the back that I can open for you if you like..." you offer.
The man squints at you suspiciously, then slowly nods. "Alright... take me to it."
