Out of time

         "Yeah, right. Like I'm gonna waste my time messing with some stupid key! Find some one else to bother, ya old fart!"
         You throw the key, and the instant it leaves your hand, a creature leaps from the shadows and grabs it.
         Could that be one of those "time eaters" he spoke of?you wonder. It just grabbed the key! Oh no!
         "Oh no" is right. The creature grins evilly, then pops the key in its mouth. As it does so, you feel something go wrong with the world.
         You try to use your powers, but feel a startling emptiness. It's not just like it isn't working... it's like you don't even have your powers any more.
         A high-pitched noise fills your ears, getting louder and louder. You fall to your knees in agony, holding your hands over your ears. Through the pain, you see that all the people around you are no longer frozen... and that they also are on the ground in agony. The ground starts shaking, and everything fades to black.
         As your mind slowly drifts away, you realize that this is
