Chapter #2

The Book Works

    by: Small1 Author IconMail Icon
Alan imagined he could actually feel the power contained within the pages of the book. He wanted to try a spell, and the sooner the better.

The closest place would be his brother Ron's house. Several years older, Ron worked in construction. "If I get lucky, he won't even be home," Alan thought to himself.

Alan got along reasonably well with Ron, who was sort of the family renegade, always going his own way. At age 25, he was several years older than his younger brothers. He was 6 feet tall with light brown hair and an incredible body. Huge muscles. Broad shoulders. Strong legs. Powerful chest.

Alan reached his brother's place and used his key. "Ron? You at home, bro?"

When he got no answer, Alan threw himself onto a couch and began to eagerly scan pages in the book.

Before long, he found what he was looking for. "It can't be that simple, can it?" Alan asked himself.

He recited the spell.

Nothing happened. He was certain he had followed the instructions.

"Damn! I should have known. Book's worthless."

Irritated, he got up and started toward Ron's kitchen to get himself something to drink from the fridge.

He walked past Ron's washer and dryer in the hallway. There were piles of dirty laundry waiting to be washed.

Suddenly, Alan felt very strange. A nova of colors burst in his brain. He felt dizzy.

A short time later, he found himself trapped in some dark tunnel. He began to look for a way out.

A few seconds later, a tiny, naked Alan crawled out from beneath his own T-shirt. Except now the garment could have been converted into a circus tent.

"It worked!" Alan squeaked.

Then, looking around, seeing everything so huge, he repeated the words. "It worked."

He was only a few inches tall, at the most. Luckily for him his clothes shrank with him.

As he surveyed his surroundings the front door opened.
