It started as a low hum. In your concentration on the thing that was lying in wait somewhere in the foliage, you did not notice it until the noise was unmistakable. It was approaching very quickly.
Then it burst overhead, a blast of noise. A black shape roared overhead, sparing you no moment, but it was unmistakable.
You found your agility and flew through the foliage ducking and weaving round the grass blades. The rotorcraft was banking right into your path and you found out why. You soon had clear sight of a dirt patch ahead of you and hovering above, stirring up dust, was a black helicopter. It slowly descended until it's skis gently touched down onto the soil.
You could have jumped for joy, but then, right before you could celebrate your rescue, a shape burst out from the foliage and was making it's way to the chopper. It was a human! Suddenly the thought of one of those "first come, first served" routines popped into your head and you burst out into a run, not exactly on a trajectory to tackle the man dressed in brown, but the idea was what had you going.
But just then, the side door to the chopper slid open, and a man in armor was revealed and the first thing he did was raise a rifle and pointed it right in your direction. This was easy to tell since you weren't even close to getting between the man and the rifle's bullet path. Just before you could stop and raise your hands in fear, a muzzleflash from the rifle had you diving sideways just as hissing bullets passed overhead and ripped into the green behind you. A few of them a few feet shy of your body into the dirt.
You eyes had closed in fear. The soldier had only let off a burst, but you were left shaken and it took a few moments to roll onto your stomach and look up to see that the man in a uniform had already climbed in through the wide open side door. Once he was in the chopper began to ascend. The man turned around and shocked you when he looked right at you, smiled, and gave a salute. The door slid shut and soon after. You picked yourself up and watched the chopper accelerate and disappear into the horizon of green grass.
Your stomach twisted into a knot. In a strange world of great proportions, chances of survival nigh-impossible, and the first human encounter you have they shoot at you then leave...deliberately?! You stood up, unable to speak for a while and just stared into space when the chopper was. This development hit you as hard as one of those bullets would have and was left bouncing around the inside of your skull, scrambling your brain. You did what was to be expected:
"You stupid little bitches!" You whined, balling your fists as if ready to strike an imaginary person. "What the—? W-what the hell?! What about me?!" It took a great deal of effort not to collapse onto you knees and scream 'no' at the top of your lungs. But eventually, after taking slow, deep breaths and counting backwards from ten—about nine times—you calmed down enough to stop raging and forget about the helicopter, it was no help anymore. It just left you outlook a little more bleak; the wolves were dangerous, and now, what should have been your salvation, was also danger.
"Well, back to the road," you told yourself. You hung your head and heaved a sigh. You saw all the dirt your shirt and jacket had caught in your fall in the dirt. Finding your frustration again, you began to vigorously pat the dust out of your clothes. Just thinking about what happened was getting you steamed up all over again. Hell, you could hear the sound of that chopper leaving in your head. Yeah, and it was loud; you hoped that this wouldn't drive you crazy. The thought was just deafening and...
"Wait a minute..." you mumbled to yourself, "that's not a chopper." It really wasn't. This noise was not in your head, and it was not a helicopter. But it sure was loud, emanating a low rumbling noise. Your head swiveled all over the open sky, but there was not a thing to be seen.
Then suddenly a shadow was cast across the ground. Looking up you realized that the source of the noise had sneaked up behind you over the grass canopy and was blocking out the sky. The ground began to quake and you could not keep you balance. You fell on your back just as you were forced to clamp your hands over your ears once the rumbling had reached unbearable levels. Now looking up, you could see that you were directly over an enormous engine.
The noise the car was making kept you stunned, but mercy had it that the engine was killed soon after the vehicle had stopped. A clicking of a door opening sounded and you looked over to the what should have been the driver's side, and sure enough, two furry paws touched down on the ground. You followed them as move to the from of what was the car, with you yourself running up to see this stranger. It was a wolf alright, it would figure due to the size of the car. But, not only that, this wolf was dressed in black and blue; a uniform. It was a police officer. And he seemed to be concentrating on something... There was a voice so faint, coming from up above, that it was hard to hear unless you strained your ears. You could just barely make it out:
"...had 'em on here just a minute ago. What do you think?"
The wolf made a movement and then said, "WAHOOM!"
"Gesundheit."
The wolf sniffed, "Thanks."
You just made out the little human, also dressed in a police uniform, standing on the wolf's shoulder.
“What do you make of this? All readings are now showing negative.”
“I can smell exhaust fumes, other than those from our cruiser." The wolf replied to the human. "They’re faint, probably a kerosene fuel.”
“Are they flying jetcraft out here?” The other laughed.
“I don’t know, but whatever they used there’s no one here anymore," the wolf shook his head.
The other laughed, "Alright. Well, let's make a thorough sweep before we call it. Get the ground floor and use that nose of yours."
"On it like white on rice."
Uh-oh. They would be searching the area and would find you soon enough if you didn't act fast. Well, what should you do? Approach the police officers or evade them?
