"Why does the library make you look so guilty?" Bella asked. She was always very direct.
"Uh, well, there are these books.."
"There frequently are books in a library." When she was not being direct, Bella could be very sarcastic.
"Not normal books-" Hamilton looked sheepish.
"You found that occult stuff" Will deduced. It figured, that of the whole school, only he and Hamilton had actually opened any of the books in the library.
Hamilton looked surprised. "Yeah, but I was bored! I didn't expect-"
"Did you try any of those spells?" Will, Bella often said, had the soul of an Old Testament prophet.
Ham blushed even more.
"What did you do?" Scout asked, agog.
"I was lonely."
"-and?"
"I conjured up a girl."
"Wow." That was just what Scout would have done.
"Only, I don't think she's human."
Three jaws dropped.
Into the silence, Hamilton said "She calls herself Jake."
