As soon as he started to squirm, however, Tom's cupped hand tightened into more of a fist to prevent the tiny bug's premature escape. Eric, who had been about to scream his boyfriend's name as loud as he possibly could, found the breath crushed right out of his lungs.
He believed he might die of suffocation just as the death grip eased. Tom unfurled his hand as he stood in the landscaped garden outside the science building. "Here you go, little bug. You'll like it better out here than you would scrounging around Eric's laboratory."
"No," Eric managed to shout despite the discomfort of bruised ribs. "Don't..."
Tom turned his palm over and shook off the tiny bug in the direction of a tall shrub. He didn't even wait to see where the bug landed before he turned, walked away, and left the "bug" to its own devices.
