Having two giant humans and a monster-sized guard dog bear down on his location drove the shrunken scientist into a panicked flight. Instead of ducking into the mouse hole and becoming potentially trapped, Eric darted across the floor of the lab, making for a row of distant tables and cabinets. His only objective was to put distance between himself and the scary giant creatures.
The race toward the shelter took longer than he anticipated, which meant he found himself completely exposed when the large dog lunged forward with enough power to slip its collar and break free from the leash. In only a few bounds, the huge canine closed on the six-inch-tall man. Eric threw up his arms to ward off the beast's scary snout as the dog opened its jaws.
Eric heard the surprised shouts of the janitor and security guard as they tried to get the dog back under control.
"Help," was all he was able to scream before the dog's jaws snapped closed around his rather bite-sized form. The dog felt the little creature squirming inside its mouth.
Realizing the dog hadn't, after all, bitten him in half, the tiny man struggled to escape the canine's mouth, something made even more difficult when the security guard caught up with his canine assistant and grabbed the dog's collar. With the choking restraint, the dog swallowed.
Tiny Eric felt himself sliding legs first toward the back of the huge dog's throat.
"No, don't!" He pleaded.
The dog finished swallowing, feeling the tiny squirming lump being squeezed down its throat.
"What was that thing?" The janitor asked.
"I didn't get a good look," the guard replied. "Some sort of rodent, I reckon."
Eaten by a dog would not have been a demise Eric could possibly have ever predicted for himself, but once he invented the shrink-ray, perhaps he should have been more cognizant of possible dangers.
