Chapter #3

Man or Mouse? Mistaken Identity

    by: Small1 Author IconMail Icon
As six-inch-tall Eric watched, a large man in a campus security uniform entered the laboratory. The young guy looked more than 70 feet tall.

Eric was ready to make contact when he saw something else. The man was holding a leash for a monstrous dog. The dog stood almost 30 feet tall. He recognized them. The guard's name was Andy. The dog's name was Prowler. Eric had spoken to Andy on occasion when the young man and his dog made their nightly patrol through the science building.

"Professor?" Andy called out. "Anyone in here?"

Andy reached down and unleashed Prowler. The huge dog began to sniff around. It's nose was leading it toward the shrinking ray platform.

"I know I heard something going on in here," Andy said.

Eric looked around desperately as the large dog came closer. That's when he spied the jagged crevice in the baseboard of a nearby wall. He could take shelter there. He dashed toward the opening.

He didn't make much noise, but the dog's ears were quite sensitive. The dog growled and raced toward him. Only by a fraction did Eric make it inside the wall.

He tried to get as far inside the wall as he could. The entrance, however, was actually the widest part of the hollow crevice within the wall.

That's when he heard Andy's voice. "What's that you've got pinned in there, Prowler? Got a mouse? Did you chase a mouse into its hole?"

Suddenly, Andy pushed his huge nightstick into the hole. "Let's see if we can't flush it out, boy!"

Eric screamed in pain as the stick rammed him in the stomach. He fell back, deeper into the crevice, out of reach of Andy's nightstick.

"Guess you are out of luck, boy," Andy said. "You let that one get away."

Inside his hiding place, Eric, nursing his painful bruise, listened as Andy and the scary dog left the laboratory.

You have the following choices:

1. Crawl out and seek out help

2. Crawl out and try to repair your shrink ray

*Noteb*
3. Crawl out and try to escape the lab

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
