Chapter #5

You wake up refreshed and ready to continue

    by: NVR Author IconMail Icon
Nothing happens during the night and you wake up the next day refreshed, feeling it was a good decision to sleep on a tree because it was still comfortable enough. Climbing down you don't notice any signs of animal activity, which you think is a bit strange considering where you are but you shrug it off, thinking maybe you were just lucky.

Moving on you find the kind of small animals you were expecting as you advance deeper into the jungle, but despite having a map you start feeling like you're getting lost. Sure, you didn't expect the cats cradle to be a tourist attraction, but you at least expected to find some sort of trodden path instead of having to use your machete to clear the foliage like in those hidden treasure movies. And despite being pretty confident you were just walking forward as the map suggested, once you recognized the foliage you cleared already you groaned, confirming you were lost and walking in circles.

You curse your lack of orientation skills and start moving again now paying more attention to your compass than to the map, but after an hour you stop to rest feeling like you have made no progress at all. At least there's no danger in the jungle and you haven't had to use your rifle, but on the other hand everything you can see around you is just more jungle.

"How do these cats do it" you wonder, and finally decide to climb up a tree again, not to rest this time but to climb above the treetop and figure out which way you should go next, because from the ground you failed to spot any clues that could lead you to the cradle, to an exit or to another place. You notice climbing the tree takes you more time than usual, but you attribute it to being tired and frustrated after an unsuccessful expedition so far.

The good news is the new perspective finally helps you recover your sense of orientation, even if you spot what seems to be a mountain ahead that you don't recall seeing in the map, at least you can tell now from which direction you entered if you want to retrace your steps, and to the east you can see a slightly clearer part of the jungle that to you suggests a path to the cradle. You just need to decide which direction to take now

What happens next?

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*
1. Go to the mountain

*Noteb*
2. Go east

*Noteb*
3. Go back to the entrance

*Noteb*
4. Someone spots you

*Noteb*
5. Something else

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
