The whole scene looks quite quiet and peaceful, and as Mike comes awake, his nose is tickled by a pleasant smell drifting in through the bus’s air system. He blinks, then identifies it as the smell of bacon and eggs cooking. He opens his eyes just as Brian across the aisle does, and as Mike looks at Brian, he looks back and licks his lips.
