"Oh My God" exclaimed Dauphin. "I forgot my Dragon charm."
"Well this is a fine mess you got us into," replied her brother while unsheathing his sword.
"I must send Fire, my Hawkin, to the camp, retrieve it and bring it back or all is lost. In the meantime we will have to maintain a holding action. Luckily, Fire can teleport after retrieving the picture from my mind of where I left the charm."
With that, Dauphin flung her Hawkin in the air and he disappeared with a pop from air displacement. It seemed like hours but was only minutes until Fire returned with her charm. She held it up, facing the dragon and moved toward him while a beam of blue light emitted from the charm. The charm usually looked like a cloak brooch of copper and pewter, until it was called upon by the chosen one to use its power and then it could cut down any dragon no matter the size or power that dragon held.
Dauphin advanced steadily toward the dragon and the blue beam touched him. There was a loud bellow and a hole was burnt into his hide. He took one look at what was happening and retired from the field, springing into the air and flying toward the west.
When the enemy camp saw the power of the brooch they turned around and ran back to the keep behind the protection of the walls. For the first time they wondered if they would be able to survive this conflict. The outlaws from the keep who had razed Dauphin's village had been executed but no message had been able to get through to let Dauphin know that justice had been carried out. Somehow, they would have to inform her before it was too late.
