Dauphin looked into the creature's eyes, searching for a reaction in that cold, reptilian gaze.
"Your proposal is intriguing," the dragon replied. "But you have given me your true name, a sign of trust. You are no enemy to me."
Dauphin breathed a sigh of relief, then sank to her knees from the effort of speaking with the dragon. As she lay for a while, recovering, she could hear the sounds of the dragon exhaling mingled with the screams of the enemy soldiers.
