Sitting high in his palace in the centre of the city the King viewed the carnage by the gates. If action was not taken quickly the invaders would have control of the city, so there was no option but to send the imperial guard, the greatest of the troops. It would leave the castle dangerously underguarded, however, if the guard were to fail.
"Send out the imperial guard."
In the outskirts of the city, Dauphin turned to Delpheus once more.
"Before long they will send reinforcements. I suggest one of us takes a small group and tries to get closer to the castle."
Delpheus looked into the sky line. He could already begin to see the troops moving towards them in the distance. A decision had to be made quickly.
