There was no point in staying in such a sociable place when no one wanted to be sociable with her.
"My room?"
Sighing slightly the barman handed Dauphin a large brass key.
"Through that door, up the stairs, third on the left."
Leaving a gold coin on the bar, far exceeding payment for a room and a meal Dauphin proceeded upstairs. Placing her key in the door she opened her room. It was simple but would do for the night - she had no desire to stay any longer than that.
Keeping her belongings, especially her sword, with her at all times Dauphin relocked the door and went to the bathroom at the other side of the corridor. Washing away the dirt of her long journey was necessary before sleep and did not take long thankfully.
Unlocking her door again to re enter her room, Dauphin immediately registered something was different. Her sword was drawn before her eyes had even fully recognised the difference - on the before empty bed a single red rose. The rest of the room was empty still.
Who could have left such a gift? And why? Whatever the case, she did not find it threatening. It was more comforting that in her loneliness maybe someone out there cared.
