With the air of confidence of one who is well used to caring for herself the girl progressed along the path. The sound of hooves had stopped - the other rider was obviously equally aware of her presence.
Rounding a bend, Dauphin came face to face with a tall dark haired man, obviously injured, sitting by the path. He was obviously prepared for trouble as his eyes followed Dauphin watchfully although he had no visible weapon to hand.
"Are you alright sir?"
"A girl! What are you doing travelling round at this time of night? A sorceress perhaps."
"A fellow traveller like yourself. But you don't look as well."
"Well you wouldn't look so good if you'd been thrown from a horse."
During this exchange the man appeared to be less suspicious. He probably still didn't trust her, but he had estimated her as a weaker opponent in a fight anyway. If you're expected an armed attacker a young girl is always a relief.
"Can I help you at all?"
"Well, unless you have a spare horse...."
Dauphin spreads her hands to indicate that she only had the one animal.
"Where are you travelling?" she asked.
"The city."
"Then let me help you there."
Dauphin offered her hand to the man. He stood with some difficulty and Dauphin had time to observe that for someone supposedly thrown from a horse his wounds looked suspiciously like those of battle. However, he was clearly injured and in need of help.
Seeing that the man could barely walk, she helped him onto her faelan and led the creature back towards the city. All this going to and fro was beginning to get tiring!
