Gripping the vial in her fist, Dauphin raised her arm and threw the vial to the ground stomping on it once, hearing the glass give and crunch under her heel. No turning back now. She had to stand and fight, or die trying.
The lead creature snarled and drew the wickedly curved blade at his side. "Burn you! You will pay for your stupidity!" The blade lowered and became level with her head, staring directly down the blade were the hate-filled eyes of the monster. Dauphin had time to imagine that she actually saw flames within those eyes before he bellowed and they fell on her like an avalanche.
Instantly her mind opened up and the familiar feeling of vertigo washed over her as she soared through the levels of Raav. She blinked. Everything became sharper, more detailed. Colors, smells, all of it was richer and more beautiful on this level of concentration.
One of the monsters was practically on top of her, its glaive raised high overhead. Using the unnatural speed granted to her, she side stepped and drew her blade in a single, smooth motion. Time seemed to slow down to Dauphin. She saw the creature bring its weapon down onto the head of another that was coming from behind her at the same time her blade opened a large gap in its belly, spilling its intestines. There was a moist crunch as the glaive tore through the skull, and both creatures toppled to the ground together.
A glaive came stabbing towards her from the side. Dauphin pivoted on her heel and spun again, rolling up the shaft of the weapon. She lashed out with her sword and spun away quickly, not needing look to know that the arm holding the weapon was severed at the shoulder. Parrying another stab, Dauphin allowed herself to rise a few more levels of Raav. She could see a delight in the creatures' eyes as she backed away, parrying and dodging their attacks. They thought she was retreating. Dauphin couldn't help but grin.
Her veins felt both frozen and searing hot in turns. The energy from the higher levels of Raav was coursing through her body now, and it was almost too much for her to handle. She channeled some of that energy into her sword, the blade becoming sheathed in a pale blue flame, and attacked with every ounce of skill she had.
The three creatures in front of her paused in their assault after seeing the flames ignite on her blade, and that's when Dauphin struck. The first one toppled over headless, the head itself landed about a yard from the body. The second began to turn but fell as the tendons behind its knees were severed. It had time enough to look shocked before Dauphin's blade pierced its heart from behind.
The third managed to get away and regroup with the others. Dauphin stood her ground, left foot slightly in front of her, balanced on the balls of her feet. She dragged her blade along the ground in front of her, the fallen leaves and grass combusting from the blue flames, to mark a burning semi circle around her. Dauphin raised her eyes and leveled them at the leader.
