Dauphin cursed herself for the thousandth time. How could she have lost Starmane only a few miles into the city? With a fantastic winged steed she looked aristocratic and impressive, without it she looked just what she was: a lowly peasant girl. Who would ever believe her story now?
"Starmane!" she called out once again, hoping desperately for some sign the faelan was near.
"Hush! It is night, people are trying to sleep," a stern voice instructed her.
Dauphin turned to see a middle aged man in a night shirt looking disapprovingly at her. Even this could not put her off her task however.
"I'm looking for Starmane... erm... she's a faelan... sort of like a horse with wings," Dauphin explained hurriedly. "You haven't seen one, have you?"
"Only faelans I've ever seen were in opposing armies, working for Cardac," the man replied dismissively. "Get along with you."
